Ohio Conference Welcomes Over Seventy People Through Baptism

Today, the Ohio Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church held mass baptism at Delaware Beach Park to climax its 2023 initiative. Most people who got baptized during the ceremony came from the Hispanic churches.

In 2021, the leadership began a conference-wide evangelistic drive dubbed: “2023 Initiative” to baptize 2,023 new members by the year 2023. Before today’s ceremony, the conference needed 17 baptisms to meet its goal, but more than 70 people were baptized, exceeding the target before the end of the year. “In the Ohio Conference, historically, we baptize between 300 and 400 people a year. The highest year of baptism we’ve ever had in our conference’s history was 2016. We baptized about 530,” Dr. Bob Cundiff (D.Min), president of the Ohio Conference, shared.

Church members who attended the event showed joy through applause when the 2,023rd person was presented for baptism. Dr. Cundiff gave him a family bible as a gift. He welcomed the new members into the global Seventh-day Adventist Church. He also thanked the leaders and church members for their roles in leading souls to Christ.

Pastor Peter Simpson, Hispanic Ministries Coordinator, sharing his experience on the event, praised God. He stressed that evangelism would continue in the Ohio territory. “This is just the conclusion of the initiative, but not the conclusion of the Gospel. We are pushing the Gospel. We are still calling people to be part of this Church,” he added.

The Slavic Seventh-day Adventist Church in Cleveland, “Heaven for All!,” recently joined churches worldwide in celebrating World Adventurer Day. Although the church’s “Little Stars” Adventurer Club is less than a year old, the children led a special Adventurer Sabbath during the worship service. They participated in the opening of the service, presented a musical selection, recited Scripture-based poems, assisted with the collection of tithes and offerings, offered the prayer for the offering, and introduced the congregational hymn. The celebration also marked an important milestone for the club. Adventurers completed the Little Lamb and Busy Bee levels and advanced to the Early Bird and Sunbeam levels. Each child received a Bible storybook and a pin recognizing the completion of their level. Following the worship service, club members completed the “My Church” Adventurer Award by meeting church leaders, asking questions about their roles, and learning more about how the church serves its congregation. The children also received commemorative gifts. The special Sabbath highlighted the involvement of the church’s youngest members in worship while encouraging their continued spiritual growth and engagement in the life of the congregation.
