Job Title: Camp Mohaven Ranger

Position Type: Salaried/Full-time

Reports to: Camp Mohaven Manager


Position Overview

The Camp Ranger is a vital member of the ministry team for Camp Mohaven, a Seventh-day Adventist camp program and facility dedicated to creating safe, spiritually enriching, and memorable outdoor experiences for campers, staff, and guests. The Camp Ranger is responsible to the Camp Manager for the overall care, maintenance, and security of the camp’s grounds, facilities, vehicles, and equipment. This position combines practical skills in maintenance and land management with a heart for service and a commitment to the Seventh-day Adventist Church's mission and values. The position calls or strengths such as being a self-starter and problem-solving. The Camp Ranger will collaborate with the Camp Manager to ensure the highest levels of safety, execute excellent ministry programs, maximize guest satisfaction, and maintain financial sustainability.


Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Facilities:

• Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of camp buildings, cabins, restrooms, and recreational facilities

• Maintain water, septic, electrical, and HVAC systems, ensuring they are safe and functioning properly

• Maintain maintenance schedules and maintain permits for Camp equipment, grounds, and programs

• Maintain camp vehicles, tools, and equipment in safe, working order

• Transport Camp equipment to and from Camp Mohaven and/or the Conference Office, as needed

• Assist the Camp Manager with various projects

• Prepare Camp Mohaven each spring for Campmeetings and Summer Camp

• Close and winterize Camp Mohaven buildings as determined by reservations and weather conditions

Ground & Land Management

• Mow Camp lawns, clear trails, trim trees, and maintain natural areas to keep Camp Mohaven’s grounds clean, 

safe, and attractive

• Maintain forested areas and waterfronts, including fire prevention, erosion control, and environmental stewardship

• Implement sustainable land-use practices consistent with Camp Mohaven’s mission and Adventist principles of 

creation care

Security & Safety

• Serve as a year-round caretaker and security presence

• Monitor Camp Mohaven’s property for safety hazards and respond promptly to emergencies

• Enforce safety policies and assist in emergency procedures, including weather events and first aid situations

Guest & Program Support

• Has a passion for the Church and how the Camp can serve the body of Christ

• Ability to work with a variety of cultures

• Assist with site preparation and facility setup for Camp programs, retreats, special events, etc.

• Provide hospitality and support for guest groups, including opening/closing buildings, troubleshooting facility 

issues, and ensuring rental groups follow proper procedures

• Assist with Camp operations, logistics, and program needs as requested by the Camp Manager

• Cultivate positive relationships within the local community, including vendors, neighbors, and local authorities

Additional Responsibilities

• Overall promotion of Camp Mohaven, including the Summer Camp Program

• This role involves some travel, mostly to Ohio Conference Churches and the Conference Office

• Attend various Ohio Conference Office Staff outings, activities, and social gatherings

• Other duties as assigned or deemed necessary by the Ohio Conference Administration


Qualifications

• A member in good standing in the Seventh-day Adventist Church as well as a commitment to the Church’s

mission, values, and beliefs

• Possess practical skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work

• Has a knowledge of or certifications in food service, HVAC, wastewater system, and pool operation

• Has the ability to operate and maintain tools, vehicles, tractors, and other equipment safely

• Strong problem-solving skills and a self-starter; has initiative and the ability to work independently

• Good time management, including the ability to assess and reassess priorities

• A lifelong learner who is naturally curious and often driven or fueled by challenges

• Good interpersonal skills and a service-oriented attitude toward staff, campers, and guests

• Actively looks for ways to help others

• Enjoys solitude but also works well with others and with deadlines

• Willingness to help with other projects that benefit the Ohio Conference, as time allows, and as requested

• Right to work in the United States

• Employee must be able to effectively communicate in English both orally and in writing.

• Although not required, being able to communicate in Spanish is desired


Spiritual Expectations

The Camp Ranger is much more than a maintenance worker—he or she is a ministry partner and a representative of the 

Ohio Conference Office. The ideal candidate will model Christ-like character, participate in the spiritual life of the Camp 

community, and contribute to a Christ-centered environment for campers and guests.


Work Environment

This position requires both indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions; weekend duties; great flexibility in 

hours available for work, including evenings, weekends, and on-call responsibilities; lifting up to 80 pounds; and carrying 

items for short and moderate distances. The workday schedule may vary at different times of the year.

Employee must have the ability to bend, kneel, stoop, push, pull, and reach overhead. Employee is required to use stairs 

and will need to carry items up and down stairs, climb ladders, and work on rooftops. Employee must be able to drive and 

operate various machines and vehicles in rugged conditions and weather. Summer on-site housing will be provided or 

required depending on the Camp’s operational needs. 


Compensation and Benefits

Remuneration based on the NAD Pay Scale will serve as the basis for compensation. These remuneration factors will 

constitute the base for the calculation of salaries. Employees are provided with comprehensive medical, dental and vision 

insurance. In addition, employees receive auto insurance assistance, retirement benefits, and life insurance.
