On Culture
.
The Incarnation of Jesus is the best model for how the Church must relate to culture.  The Incarnation displays to us the heart of God in leaving the safety of heaven, and limiting Himself to time and space by taking on the form of a human, at a specific time in history, in a specific geographical location, within a specific culture.  He expresses His mission within the context of that culture, and engages that culture at many levels and forms.

The Church, today, must be compelled by a profound desire to engage today's culture in all of its complexities.  The Church cannot hide itself within a culture, or take itself out of it.  We must seriously reevaluate our tendencies to want to take ourselves out of our culture, either physically or mentally.  We must find ways to speak to the issues foremost in our culture, and do so in the language of truth.  We cannot feel satisfied that we have discharged our responsibilities faithfully until we have engaged the culture with biblical truth.
