Love of the Ages
--A Historic Event

“Shaping the Future, while honoring the Past,” was a central theme of the day’s events when over 3,500 people from across the U.S. and Canada gathered on May 10 in Kettering, Ohio, for a celebration of Adventist heritage and mission.  The “Love of the Ages:  A Vision of Hope” convocation marked 150 years since the Adventist movement was introduced to the centrality of the biblical theme of the “Great Controversy” between God and Satan, between good and evil, as a defining background to the ministry and mission of the Church.  The critical and timely question that the convocation sought to address was:  “How should the Great Controversy theme define our identity (who we are today), and how we fulfill our mission to a world very different from that in the mid-1800s?”

Keynote presenters were Jim Nix, Director of the Ellen G. White Estate, Jon Paulien, Dean of the School of Religion, Loma Linda University, Jan Paulsen, President of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Smuts Van Rooyen, Senior Pastor of the Vallejo Drive Seventh-day Adventist Church, Charles Bradford, retired President of the North American Division,  Michael Knecht, Senior Pastor of CrossWalk Church, Redlands, California,  Karl Haffner, Senior Pastor, Kettering Seventh-day Adventist Church, Clarissa Worley Sproul, Musician/Speaker, Portland, Oregon, and Don Pate, Director/Speaker of Between the Lines.

Musical artists included the Heritage Singers; Ponder, Harp & Jennings; Columbus Ghanaian Choir; Soloists: Kenniecia Grant, Columbia Union College, Stephanie Mauer, Spring Valley Academy, Krystal Morris, Spring Valley Academy; Miclen LaiPang, Violinist, Loma Linda, California; Indiana Academy Choir, Bell Choir, and Drama Group; Mount Vernon Academy Choir, Echoliers, and Bell Choir; Spring Valley Academy Chorus; and Grace Notes Praise Band, Worthington, Ohio.

The event was sponsored by the Ohio Conference in close partnership with the Kettering Health Network, the Kettering Medical Center, and the Columbia Union Conference.
